Broken Banners

by Mark Gelineau and Joe King

The most recent of their stunning collection, this is my favourite storyline of the four – this week at any rate. Elinor is my favourite type of character and I can’t wait to find out what she does next within her part of this world. And just look at that cover! This is both a book 2 and a book 5 in the complex set up these guys have. A series sub split into 4 time lines, it all slots together, with each time line presenting a different story type for a different type of  reader.

Rebel of the Sands

by Alwyn Hamilton

This is a different book from many of the others in my collection, it takes place in the desert. I like this book exactly because it’s different and yet, it’s the kind of book I love to lose myself in.

Night Study

by Maria V Snyder

I loved the first installment to this series and though I was fearful of bad things happening in the second half I’m actually loving it! And I cant wait for book 3! If you’ve not read any of these books yet, I recommend them. But don’t skip the glass series…

The Scarecrow King

by Jill Myles

This was just the book I thought it was going to be and it was fantastic. I loved all of this and I’ll look forward to re-reading it! I wish it were longer.

Truthwitch

by Susan Dennard

I’ve just read this and I wish that the other books in the series were done already. There’s so much more to learn and it’s so fascinating I look forward to reaching it’s conclusion.

A Darker Shade final for Irene the queen of the tearling sineater Rend the Dark 5th wave

Sometimes what I really want to do is sit down with a good book and get so immersed in it that I forget everything that’s happened that week, that day or even what’s happening around me at that precise moment. I love to get lost in a good fantasy world even for just a few hours cos sometimes I just want to get the fuck out of here! Here are some of the books that have helped me escape.

6 A Darker Shade of Magic

by V E Schwab

I’ve just started reading A Gathering of Shadows and I just love this multi-layered world. Its based in London but a London that’s split into 4 different dimensions and each dimension has a colour, Red, Black, Grey and White. I love the dirty, gritty feel of this universe. Its full of thieves, royals and soul-less villains. If you haven’t had the chance to read this series yet I’d recommend picking it up asap cos it will keep your mind busy for hours. Book two even has Pirates!

7 The Sin Eater’s Daughter

by Melinda Salisbury

I bought book 2, The Sleeping Prince, last month and I’ve been trying to find a spare moment to read it ever since because I loved book one. Most of The Sin Eater’s Daughter takes place in a Castle and most of that is in ‘The Tower’ but even with this limited environment I was still completely drawn into this story. I can’t wait to explore other areas of this fantasy world – there is so much to investigate! I may even re-read The Sin Eaters Daughter because it was that good!

8 Queen of the Tearling

by Erika Johansen

I can’t believe I have to wait till November for the final piece of the Tearling puzzle. So far I’ve enjoyed the odd futuristic, magical world that seems more medieval than anything else. I love Kelsea and how she is developing into a strong and independent queen but her guards are by far the most exciting characters! I want to know more about the history, how they all got their, why they ended up stuck and how it will link back together! All this and the promise of an all out war! This was so easy to get sucked into, I’m so excited to see where this goes next.

9 Rend the Dark

by Mark Gelineau and Joe King

I know Paein mentioned these guys but I couldn’t resist adding them to my list too. My favourite mini-series of their books is Rend the Dark and this was confirmed when I read their up-coming second book to Rend the Dark, Skinshaper. Serious guys if you want a quick read, that has all the best bits of high fantasy, has great characters and that will completely blow your mind, then you need to get your teeth into this!

10 5th Wave

by Rick Yancey

This series so far has had me terrified and suspicious of literally EVERYTHING but I can’t deny that I was completely sucked into this world. I can’t be the only one counting down the days till the last book of this awesome trilogy is released? Can I? The idea of our world being taken over, changed and made into some hostile plain is sooo exciting in an utterly scary way!
