Make it Monday: Moisturiser Bars

The weather is getting warmer and it’s nearing holiday season. The time when you fit 10 days worth of stuff in a tiny bag to save yourself ridiculous baggage costs. Which means buying your liquids there…or finding ways of taking solid equivalents.

The pin. Not the one I wanted to do, but the other required marigold(calendula) and chamomile flowers and Amazon let me down *shakes head*.

moisturiser barThis was a test, to see what they were like and if they were worth making for the summer.

I used:

Cocoa Butter
Beeswax
Coconut oil
Weleda Calendula Baby Oil [Fragrance Free] (this is a100% natural organic baby oil – Sesame seed oil infused with Calendula)
Frankincense and Bergamont essential oils

I melted the beeswax and the cocoa butter on the aga, the coconut and sesame oil I didn’t add right off because I don’t usually when I make my whipped body butter, (though it melted by itself because apparently winter and summer were only a day apart this year). This was perhaps a mistake as when I did add it, THIS happened and I had to pop it back in the warming oven:

It was in the warming oven, because these pesky little bits of beeswax would not melt. I gave up in the end and poured it in, it will mean that I have bits of beeswax in the bars but at this point I was fed up waiting…

This mix made about a billion bars more than I was expecting ( I did make more than the measurements on the site, I wanted to use up my overflow jars of cocoa butter and beeswax pellets.) but luckily I had a bunch of silicone loaf moulds in the cupboard right net to me. And then I accidentally spilt some all over the fridge so that was fun, but it was pretty much setting as I put it in the fridge.

Then all that’s left to do, is wrap them up in grease proof paper like little Christmas cakes!

No really…

This is how I wrap up my fruit cakes.

CONCLUSION:

Really was as easy recipe.

12 drops of each scent wasn’t enough. My mother could smell the coconut, I can smell the beeswax, but both are nice so that’s fantastic. I used coconut because even though it has a low melting temp It’s still solid sometimes and it might help a tiny bit when in a hot place. I don’t think it actually did anything.

It takes a little to sink in and it’s got a little bit of an oily residue – much like the whipped body butter I make, except this is predominantly NOT oil.

I’ll be replacing my whipped body butter with this over the next few weeks and I’ll perhaps give you an update in the next summertime/travel MIM I do, cause I’ll be doing more!
