“…Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw, if you’ve a ready mind. Where those of wit and learning will always find their kind.”
- The Sorting Hat, Harry Potter

I’m a Ravenclaw and that’s amazing. I’d previously drawn out the Ravenclaw sorting lines and realised they were the perfect size for a canvas I had, so I decided to transfer it onto there in appropriate Ravenclaw colours (blue and bronze). This is an easy one! And in the end I didn’t make it how I thought. First off I didn’t use paint. Mainly because I didn’t have the right colour.

I used a Distress Ink in Chipped Sapphire and added the colour much the same way I did with the letters I made last week, using a colour duster brush to spread it over the canvas once I’ve dabbed it on there. I let it dry and used tracing paper to transfer the image.

I wasn’t convinced I’d be able to redraw what I wanted onto the canvas and I didn’t want to mess it up in the trying. So I drew around it and then flipped it over, the way you do with tracing paper, to mark the side I wanted (using my trusty pink-tac). I rubbed it onto the canvas but I was scared of pressing too hard and ripping the canvas (so I’d recommend putting something in the middle of the edges to lean on) and it didn’t come out too clear, even sitting under direct light I still had to check the original regularly.

I used a bronze sharpie to colour it in and I think I should have perhaps redrawn it in in pencil first before using the sharpie, especially as it was a new one and was quite bleed happy. Many of the letters didn’t work out how I hoped. However it still looked quite good in the end.

I’m happy with it. I patched up the bits that came off on my hand, (see the left of the canvas) and I’ve even coloured the edges of the canvas so that they’re not white. Now I just need to wait for the roofers to finish making a mess, re re-decorate and then find a place to hang it. It might be an idea to seal it too, to prevent blue ink going everywhere.
